Penis size is a popular subject among men; in fact men are just as obsessed with the size of their penis as women are with their breasts. Is it big enough or long enough? Unfortunately for centuries a man’s penis has been the focus of strength, fertility and sexual performance, but the true reality is that the average size penis is not as big as most men think.
A mans anxiety over penis size is truly over exaggerated. Most of the peer pressure surrounding the size of the male genitalia is probably obscured by the widespread availability of pornography on the Internet, this only heightens men’s anxiety making them even more self conscious about their penis size.
What is the average penis size?
This is probably one of the biggest questions asked by men, most are not comfortable with what they currently possess but lets look at some numbers. In 2001 there was a study performed on 3300 Italian males between the age of 17 and 19 all who where in perfect health and with no penis abnormalities. What the study found was that the average flaccid penis length was 9.00 cm (3.54 inches) the average erect size was around 12.5 cm, (4.92 inches) the penis circumference which was measured towards the center of the penis was 10.0 cm (3.93 inches), another thing that was observed in thecstudy was that penis size correlated with height and weight but then again differences were minimal.
As you can see, this was one of the many studies performed, the interesting thing about all of this is what do women really think about penis size, once again there have been a variety of studies and surveys, one which was published by the British Journal Of Urology showing that 85% of women who where surveyed were happy with the size of their partners penis, yet in another study performed on men 45% said they felt their penis size was inadequate, while 55% of men surveyed were comfortable with the size of their penis . So if you are a guy who measures up to the above numbers you are within the norm of the average penis size and have nothing to be ashamed of.
What is considered a small penis?
Doctors consider a small penis anything with a flaccid length of 4 cm or less (1.6 inches) and an erect penis of 7.5 cm or (3 inches) only then will a doctor consider some kind of surgical procedure to lengthen the penis.
Penis size reality:
There have been over 20 clinical studies from a variety of countries with the earliest study performed back in 1899, over 100 years ago and the study showed the following.
- Average flaccid penis length 7-10 cm (2.9 – 4.0 inches)
- Average flaccid circumference 9 – 10.5 cm (3.54 – 4.13 inches)
- Average erect length 12-16 cm (4.72 -6.29 inches)
- Average erect thickness 12 cm (4.72 inches)
If you do your own research on what most women prefer, you will find that about 90% actually prefer thickness over length, which makes sense considering that most of the nerve endings in the female vagina are towards the entrance.
So now that you have an idea of what the average penis size is, can it be worth spending the money on something that will make it bigger, this is totally up to you, if you are a guy who wants to be above average you may want to look in to one of the various devices to increase the length and girth of your penis.
Penis pumps are are preferred method because they increase not only length but more importantly the thickness, which as mentioned above is what most women want. Penis extenders or stretchers are another viable option to help extend the length of your penis, the bottom line is you have to do what you feel comfortable with, its your body and your penis.
